Overview: A state of emergency exists in many forest-dependent Indian communities. Depressed markets for forest products have resulted in the loss of jobs, revenues to support tribal government, and threaten the health of the forests themselves, jeopardizing the water, fish, wildlife, foods, and medicines that are vital to sustain tribal lifeways.
